At Spielzimmer Family Café by Helmholtzplatz, you can hire the entire café exclusively – for up to 50 guests including children, for 3.5 or 8 hours, with a member of staff, a buffet tailored to you and all play areas. During your party, the café is closed to other guests.
Hire starts from a €750 minimum spend – €450 of which is for food and drinks.
The adults sit together comfortably, the children climb, slide and play – and nobody has to tidy up their own flat afterwards.

At Spielzimmer, things are different. Seating for the adults, the counter and catering, and the play areas are all close together. This way, several generations can celebrate together in a relaxed atmosphere – grandparents, parents, friends and children of all ages.
Indoor playground and toddler area included
Our indoor playground in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg offers a climbing frame, slide and ball pit, plus quiet ride-on cars, a dressing-up box and books. For babies and toddlers, there is a separate toddler play area with a crawling corner. The play areas are included in the hire.

Whether it is rain in autumn, cold in winter or a wet summer’s day: your party takes place indoors. You don’t need a plan B, a marquee or a back-up date.
Who looks after the children?
Supervision of the children remains with the parents and accompanying adults. Childcare by the café is not part of the offer. Our member of staff takes care of the catering.

Hire an indoor playground for a kids’ birthday party
Are you looking for a venue for a kids’ birthday party in Berlin because the whole nursery group or half the class is coming? Then private hire is the right choice: you have the indoor playground to yourselves, and siblings, parents and grandparents also have room at the table.
For smaller parties with up to ten children, our birthday packages for kids’ parties in Berlin are usually better value – with a decorated birthday table, cake and drinks from €125. The café then stays open to other guests.
Breakfast, cake or evening buffet for your guests
With private hire, you don’t need to organise a caterer: food and drinks are provided directly by Spielzimmer. We put together the buffet with you personally – to suit the occasion, the time of day and your guests. During the party, our team takes care of setting up, refilling and service.
Food we can offer you, for example
- Cakes and gateaux: various creations from our patisserie, Konditorei Engelmann
- Breakfast buffet: fresh bread rolls, cheese and cold cut platters, eggs and other breakfast sides
- Savoury buffet: quiche, various salads and German or Italian pasta salad
- Canapés and finger food: small savoury bites for your guests
- Filled rolls and open sandwiches: various savoury options
- Fruit and vegetable platters: freshly prepared for children and adults
- Other options: pasta, hot dogs and other simple dishes by arrangement
In addition, there are coffee and tea specialities, water, juices, soft drinks and flavoured milk for children.
Good to know: We are a kids’ café, not a traditional restaurant. Our offer therefore depends on what our kitchen can prepare.
Cakes and gateaux from Konditorei Engelmann
For cakes, gateaux and quiche, we work with Konditorei Engelmann. You can get an idea of what they offer in advance in the Konditorei Engelmann product range (in German).
You don’t need to order anything there yourselves. Simply tell us your wishes during our preliminary phone call – we place the order and make sure everything is delivered to the café in good time.
Allergies, birthday cake and bringing your own food
Please let us know about any allergies and special dietary requirements during the preliminary call. Together, we will work out what options are available for your party.
As a rule, you cannot bring your own food and drinks for a private hire. Bringing your own birthday cake is possible by arrangement; we charge a €20 cakeage fee for this. Alternatively, we can order cakes or gateaux for you.
How much does it cost to hire the kids’ café?

For a 3.5-hour party, the minimum spend is made up of €300 for the venue and staff and €450 for food and drinks. If costs or consumption exceed this, the additional amount will be charged.
How to estimate your costs
From our experience, this rule of thumb works well for a 3.5-hour party: venue fee + approx. €15 per adult for food and drinks. The venue fee is €300.
- 20 adults: €300 venue fee + 20 × €15 = €600 → the minimum spend of €750 applies
- 30 adults: €300 venue fee + 30 × €15 = approx. €750
- 40 adults: €300 venue fee + 40 × €15 = approx. €900
This is a guideline: if the party is mainly family, people often eat and drink a little more. With friends, acquaintances or nursery families, it is usually a little less.
What does minimum spend mean?
The minimum spend is the least your party will cost. The share for food and drinks is not an unlimited buffet or drinks package: if you order more or we agree on additional services, the amount above it will be charged.
Deposit and payment
When booking, you pay 50% of the total price as a deposit. You settle the remaining amount at the end of your party.

Spielzimmer Family Café is located at Schliemannstraße 37, 10437 Berlin, right by Helmholtzplatz in the district of Pankow. The venue is easy to reach for families from Prenzlauer Berg, Pankow, Mitte, Friedrichshain and Wedding.
Instead of an ordinary function room, you hire a fully equipped kids’ café – and after the party, if the weather is nice, the playground at Helmholtzplatz invites you for a round outdoors.

How many guests can come?
Up to 50 people – adults and children combined. During the preliminary call, please tell us how many children are coming and roughly how old they are.
Can we bring our own decorations?
Usually you don’t need to: we always decorate Spielzimmer for your party in a festive, colourful and stylish way – with table decorations and a balloon garland, and for birthdays also with a Happy Birthday garland. For children, we also have themed plates and cups, for example with Peppa Pig, Minnie Mouse, unicorns, Paw Patrol or superheroes.
Do you have a special decoration request that we don’t have? Then you are welcome to bring your own table decorations. Just mention it during the preliminary call.
Can we bring our own food or our own cake?
Food and drinks are provided by Spielzimmer, so bringing your own food and drinks is not possible. You can bring your own birthday cake by arrangement – we charge a €20 cakeage fee for this. Alternatively, we can order cakes or gateaux for you from our patisserie, Konditorei Engelmann.
Is childcare provided?
No. Supervision remains with the parents and accompanying adults. Our member of staff takes care of the catering.
When and how do we pay?
When booking, you pay a deposit of 50% of the total price. The rest is due at the end of the party.
When do we discuss the details?
About one week before your party, we agree on the number of guests, buffet, allergies and decorations with you in person.

Is hiring the café also worthwhile for a kids’ birthday party?
Yes, especially with more than ten children or many adult guests. For smaller kids’ birthday parties, our birthday packages are usually the better-value choice.
